Overview

A student monitoring platform for Caldwell Adventist Academy — giving staff one place to track enrollment, attendance, grades, and payments across every student, with a parent app for following a child's progress.

The Problem

The academy ran enrollment, class scheduling, attendance, grading, and tuition collection across separate spreadsheets and paper forms. Records were duplicated between offices, report cards had to be assembled by hand each grading period, and staff had no shared view of a student across departments. As enrollment grew, the manual process became slow and error-prone.

The Solution

We built a single system covering the full student lifecycle — from registration and enrollment through attendance, grades, payments, and reporting. A permission-based access model gives each role exactly the screens and actions they need, so registrars, teachers, and administrators work from the same records without stepping on each other. The backend is Node.js and Express on PostgreSQL with parameterized raw SQL, and the admin app is React with TanStack Query for fast, consistent data. A companion React Native app for iOS and Android is currently in development, giving parents a direct view of their child's attendance, grades, and outstanding balances from the same API.
